Katie Botak said she never felt confident in her academic studies, but creating art was a different story. Taking art classes at AFS changed what had been a hobby into a full-fledged passion. “
Completing an intense precollege program between her junior and senior years played a pivotal role in her decision to pursue art in college. After her summer at the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Katie came away saying, “This is it for me. I am going to art school!”
She set her sights on attending MICA, but changed her mind after a visit to Moore. One of the admission officers reviewed her portfolio, took note of how her style had developed during her Upper School career at AFS and urged her to apply to Moore.
Katie was attracted to Moore because she loves Philadelphia and liked the vibe she got at this urban campus. “Their community was really tight-knit and welcoming. A bunch of things added up,” she said, including the scholarship money she received in recognition of her talents.
Katie is pursuing her passion for art at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia.
