For more than two decades, second graders at AFS have studied ancient Egypt and this year’s class is no exception. On January 17, students in Teacher Sandy Scott-Mraz’s classroom were sitting cross-legged on the floor, practicing how to be scribes in “The House of Life.” On pieces of paper, they were carefully writing hieroglyphic symbols, creating a cartouche of their names.
Meanwhile, in the Maker Space, Teachers Danielle Carchidi and Mindy Sage were helping students create Egyptian amulets on a 3-D printer. First, the students selected a design they liked in a book and customized it as they drew it on paper. Then they copied their work onto an iPad and sent it to a computer hooked up to the printer.
