Commencement exercises will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 7, for the 322nd graduating class of Abington Friends School. The ceremony will take place in The Grove located on the front lawn of the Abington Monthly Meeting House.
The program will include a procession of the graduating seniors and their first grade pages. Members of the junior class will carry daisy chains into the ceremony and use them to decorate the stage.
Rich Nourie, head of school, will address the graduates, and he will join School Committee Clerk Margaret Sayers in handing out the diplomas.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to inside the Muller Auditorium, and tickets will be required to attend. No tickets are needed for the outdoor ceremony.
Parking Information: All families and guests must park either at the Triangle Building or on the main campus parking lots for Commencement. Staff will be directing cars at the Triangle Building. (map for reference) The entrances to the Meeting House area will be closed to traffic. Very limited space for parking will be available at the East Wing of the Meeting House for guests with special needs. Please contact Carolyn Schwartz, Administrative Assistant for the Upper School if you need special parking or seating accommodations.
Michael Jordan,AFS class of 1996, will be our Commencement Speaker for the Class of 2019. Mike is fondly remembered by those who taught him for his leadership, integrity, hard work and caring spirit. Mike went on to an illustrious basketball and academic experience at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a highly successful career as a player in Europe. He’s been a member of the Colgate University coaching staff since 2012.
