Social studies and Spanish teacher Diana Gru brought a project to life based on her desire to make studying the scientific revolution interesting for students. She thought since science was involved, she’d collaborate with the science teacher. Diana Gru partnered with Roseanne Liberti and together they created a simulation where students must prove that they are the most influential scientist of the scientific revolution for a panel of student judges. Seventh grade students researched and wrote the speeches with their social studies teachers, Diana and Megan Asplundh. The scientists also created demo labs or visual aids to bring their presentations to life.
Adelia Wallace (playing William Harvey) introduced her speech saying, “I learn anatomy not from books, but from dissections, not from the tenets of philosophers, but from the fabric of nature. I, William Harvey, am the greatest scientist, because my work in the field of medicine is the most revolutionary of my time.” In addition to William Harvey, the scientists explored by the students included: Leonardo da Vinci, Andreas Vesalius, Maria Winkelmann/Kirch, Sophie Brahe, Robert Boyle, Sir Francis Bacon, Blaise Pascal, Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, Sir Isaac Newton and RenĂ© Descartes.
