Two third grade classes really took a shine to the stage on November 29 as they celebrated the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Parents, faculty and family members watched and recorded as students performed a program of songs, poetry, folktales and facts centering on the night’s orb. Student artwork proudly decorated the entire Black Box Theatre, including colorful lanterns glowing in the darkened space, transforming the theatre it into a truly celestial environment.
Third grade teachers who kindly shared some of their students’ beautiful poetry from the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.
The Moon’s Night Dance by Amaya Goodwin
It’s midnight
The night sky is its stage
The moon’s light surrounds the audience
The moon dances like the wind
Dazzling like a gem
Fully rising over the earthly heavens
The stars dance along with the moon
It is beautiful how it moves
Gliding
Floating
Slowly turning
The sun’s spotlight is on the moon
Silent Moon by Hadley McGraw
Valley covered in snow
A pitch black night
A cold swift breeze blows the dark clouds like dust
The moon is like a pearl
Swinging across the sky.
Nobody knows where it will go.
It is a mystery to all.
It glows, waiting patiently.
It will never be this perfect ever again.
The Night Watcher by Xavier Diclemente-Hayes
The moon smoothly floats
Breaking through the trees
It shines like a spotlight
Its path never had a boundary
It glares through the dark night
It is irreplaceable
Nothing is like it
It is the night watcher.
