Senior Nick Sinni, a three-sport athlete at Abington Friends School, has signed a letter of commitment to play on the men’s soccer team at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
In a ceremony in the school’s Faulkner Reading Room on March 16, Nick read a statement thanking all those who had helped him reach that celebratory moment — mentioning his parents, God, his teammates, teachers and friends who filled the room.
“I can’t say thank you enough,” Nick said.
As he sat at the signing table, he was flanked by his father, Shawn, and his mother, Michelle, and framed by blue and gold balloons, Pitt University’s colors.
Nick, who enrolled in AFS in seventh grade, played soccer, basketball and baseball every year since then except for this year, when he did not play basketball. He was a captain of the varsity soccer team this fall and will be a captain of the baseball team this spring.
AFS Athletics Director Jeff Bond praised Nick’s talent in soccer and the hard work he has exhibited, then noted that Nick added something else — something extra — to a team.
“He’s the guy you can count on when things are good and you can count on when things are bad. He’s the glue guy,” who holds the team together, Jeff said.
That talent for bringing people together was evident right after the signing as family members, teachers and many friends swarmed around Nick at the front of the room, congratulating him and posing for photos. Congratulations, Nick!
