The AFS Upper School Black Student Union invites you to attend a special screening of the 2012 film Prep School Negro by local documentary film maker and producer André Robert Lee. This screening will be followed by a discussion about the film led by a panel, including the producer/director himself.
“In The Prep School Negro, André takes a journey back in time to revisit the events of his adolescence while also spending time with present-day prep school students of color and their classmates to see how much has really changed inside the ivory tower. What he discovers along the way is the poignant and unapologetic truth about who really pays the consequences for yesterday’s accelerated desegregation and today’s racial naiveté.”

Nic James – Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and 10th grade English teacher at Delaware Valley Friends School – attended Friends Select starting from the 4th grade

Mikael Yisrael – Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Abington Friends School – attended Peddie School in NJ as a high school boarding student

Danielle Holman – Director of Admissions for The TEAK Fellowship (a free NYC-based program that places students in prep schools) – attended The Spence School in NYC

Bridget Warlea ’15 – Coordinator at The Steppingstone Academy , an AFS alumna, honors graduate from Temple class of 2019 and soon to be law student, changing lives and the world
The event begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, with refreshments in the Muller Auditorium. The film will be screened at 6:30 p.m and the panel discussion will conclude at 9 p.m. All are welcome.
